Stage 2 – The Eglantine RAYER Show

Eglantine Rayer won after a long solo raid. Marion Bunel retains the CIC yellow jersey

France’s women’s hopefuls are enjoying the Tour de l’Avenir. After Marion Bunel’s big move on Thursday on the climb to Les Karellis, it was another French rider, Eglantine Rayer, who reached Condove, in the Italian Piedmont, after a fine solo ride.

The Frenchwoman set off a long way from the top of the Aussois climb, 80 kilometres from the finish, and neither Mont-Cenis nor the headwind on the descent into the Val Susa stopped her in her tracks.

She triumphed in Condove with a time of 1’35’, which was certainly not enough to get back into the overall standings, where Marion Bunel holds the lead, while the Colle delle Finestre on Saturday should prove her climbing potential.
